Bulls Lose at Western Michigan

Ortega Gets 12 as Buffalo Drops to 12-4, 2-3 on the Season

BUFFALO, NY -The Univeristy at Buffalo women's basketball team dropped to 12-4 overall, 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference with an 87-47 loss at Western Michigan Monday night (1/17).

The Bulls, who were playing without their leading scorer junior center Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield), who is averaging 19.9 points a game, shot just 28.6% (20-of-70) from the field and was outrebounded by the Broncos 47-29 in the game.

Western Michigan senior Shelsea Erving scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and freshman Kristin Koetsier added 17 points and nine boards for the Broncos who remain undefeated in the MAC at 5-0. Western Michigan shot a blistering .589 (33-of-56) and connected on eight of its three-point tries for a season-best .615 percentage.

The Bulls were led by senior guard Sonia Ortega (Chihuahua, Mexico/Cobach) who recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Junior guard Mari McClure (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams), who has started every game for the Bulls this season went down midway through the first half with an ankle injury and did not return to the game.

Buffalo returns to action on Thursday (1/20) as they host Eastern Michigan at 7:30pm.
