Early Shooting Woes Cost The BullsBUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team was unable to come back from a 17-point halftime deficit as the Bulls dropped their second consecutive game, this time a 72-62 loss to Ohio, Saturday night at Alumni Arena. The Bulls (6-8, 1-2 MAC) put together their third largest scoring half with a 45-point performance in the second half, but it wasn't enough as they went in to the lockerroom trailing 34-17.
With the visiting Bobcats clinging to a 16-13 lead at the 5:05 mark of the first half, Ohio went on an 18-4 run to end the half. The Bulls started to show fight in the second half and a jumper by Turner at the 16:16 mark started a 15-2 UB run. UB would cut the Bobcat lead to as little as seven, but clutch shooting from the field and the line would keep Ohio's lead.
"We had a good second half, but we need to be consistent," head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald said. "That has been an issue. We aren't consistent from game-to-game, even from half-to-half and that is all part of the growing process." The Bulls also got double-digit performances from Brooke Meunier (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) and Jamie Schiebner (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. All of Meunier's points were in the second half. Meunier also recorded a team-high six assists as UB dished out 17 dimes in the contest, while only turning the ball over 14 times, the second-lowest total on the season. The Bobcats (5-9, 2-1 MAC) were led by three players in double figures. Simone Redd recorded 19 points, including 13-of-14 from the line. Freshman Rachel Frederick recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Katie Reihmann added 12 points, but all of those were in the first half. The Bulls will now hit the road, where they are 4-2 this season, as they travel to Akron on Wednesday, Jan. 18 for a matchup with the Zips. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. |
