WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Former Ohio University assistant will head recruiting efforts for Bulls

University at Buffalo women's basketball coach Cheryl Dozier has announced the addition of Deborah Perry to her coaching staff as the Bulls' Recruiting Coordinator.

Dozier and Perry coached together at Ohio University from 1991-93 as the Bobcats went on to win the Mid-American Conference championship. Perry's last coaching stint was as a head coach at West Virginia State College from 1995-97 where she also served as an assistant athletic director.

Perry coached at Ohio from 1991-95 and also acted as Recruiting Coordinator. Her 1993-94 and 1994-95 recruiting classes earned Blue Star Honorable Mention accolades and the Bobcats went on to earn an NCAA at-large bid when they won the MAC title in 1995 finishing 23-7. Before joining the Ohio staff, Perry was an assistant at Southern University from 1989-91.

A native of Cleveland, OH, Perry attended Cuyahoga Community College before moving on to South Carolina State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1977. Before getting into the coaching ranks Perry worked 10 years at General Motors as an Industrial-Manufacturing Engineer from 1978-88.

A member of the Women's Basketball Coaching Association, Perry is the first assistant hired by Dozier who came to UB in June from Michigan State University.

"The University at Buffalo is a great academic institution with a diverse background of students and degrees," said Perry. "I hope it is a nurturing environment where one can grow spiritually, socially and intellectually."
