Jacob, Bell Lead Bulls over Chippewas

University at Buffalo women's basketball remains 8-0 in Alumni Arena after MAC win

BUFFALO, NY- Senior point guard Catherine Jacob (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) became the ninth player in University at Buffalo women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in her career on a made jumper at the 19:00 mark in the second half tonight as the Bulls survived the Chippewas of Central Michigan, 59-56 in Mid-American Conference action.

The Bulls 11-5 overall, 4-2 in the MAC led the entire game and had three players score in double figures - including two with double doubles. Jacob led the team with 16 points and pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds while sophomore center Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Samantha Cerny (Leonidas, MI/Leonidas) was also in double figures for the Bulls with 12 points. Sophomore guard Sonia Ortega (Chihuahua, Mexico, Cobach) paced the Buffalo offense with six steals.

UB who is tied for second place in the East Division of the MAC with Akron is undefeated in Alumni Arena this season at 8-0.

Next up for Buffalo is a three-game road stint starting this Saturday at Northern Illinois. Tipoff is set for 1:05 pm. The Bulls will then face Marshall on Monday (1/25) and Western Michigan on Thursday (1/28). Both of those games are scheduled for 7:00 pm.
