Bell Named MAC Pepsi Player of the Week

Sophomore Standout Leads Buffalo In Inaugural Season In MAC

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's basketball sophomore center Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts during the week of February 1. Bell averaged 26.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 blocks as the Bulls went 2-0 in conference games this past week. Bell hauled down 18 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive end in an 87-81 overtime win versus Miami (2/1). She also added four blocks, four steals and a career- high 37 points in 45 minutes of play against the RedHawks. In Buffalo's 73-71 win over Ohio (2/6), Bell finished with seven rebounds, three steals and 16 points.

Bell has started every game for the Bulls this season and is the team leader in both points and rebounding. She is averaging 15.4 points a game and 8.4 boards and has recorded a double-double in scoring and rebounding in eight games this season. Her most impressive performance came this past week in the Bulls' victory over Miami as she pulled down a career-high 37 points and 18 rebounds.

The Bulls return to Alumni Arena tommorrow night to continue their hunt for home-court advantage for the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament. The game will be a battle between the No. 4 and No. 5 ranked teams in the league. Buffalo is in fourth place with an 15-7 overall and 8-4 league mark while Western Michigan is 14-7, 7-4 and in fifth place. The top four teams in the league, regardless of division will be awarded home-court advantage for the quarterfinals to be played on Feb. 6.

Tipoff for tommorrow night's game is set for 7:30 pm.
