Bulls Zip Past Akron, 68-60

Bell leads second half-charge in Mid-American Conference victory for Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY- Sophomore center Tiffany Bell (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) scored 16 points in the second half as The University at Buffalo women's basketball team moved to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference on Saturday with a win over Akron (7-7, 2-2), 68-60 in Alumni Arena.

The Bulls were down by as much as 17 points in the first half but went on a 10-0 run in the last 2:50 to play to cut the Akron lead to five, 32-27 at the break.

Buffalo outscored the Zips, 41-28 in the second half while shooting 57.7% from the field (15-of-26). The Bulls shot just 26.9% (7-of-26) from the field in the first half.

Bell finished with a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Mari McClure (Rochester Hills/Rochester Adams), UB's leading scorer, finished the game with 15 points and nine rebounds. Senior point guard Catherine Jacob (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) had nine points and seven assists in the victory.

The Bulls head to Kent this Wednesday (1/13). Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
