Keynote Speaker: Sheryl Swoopes

Photo of Sheryl Swoopes Career Highlights

  • A member of the 2000 WNBA Champion Houston Comets (fourth-straight year) and the All-WNBA First Team
  • Honored as the WNBA’s MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in 2000. 
  • Was the top vote-getter for the WNBA All-Star Game; 1999 & 2000
  • Named to the All-WNBA First Team; 1998, 1999 & 2000 
  • Captured two gold medals as a key member of the USA Olympic Women’s Basketball Team: 1996 
  • Named one of the Top 10 Division I Kodak All-Americans of All-Time. 
  • After giving birth to her first child, Jordan Eric, Sheryl helped lead the Houston Comets to the inaugural WNBA Championship. 
  • A member of the undefeated (52-0) USA Women’s National Team since 1994. 
  • 1993 National Collegiate Player of the Year. 
  • Earned 1993 NCAA Final Four MVP honor after setting an NCAA Championship game record with 47 points against Ohio State.

Up Close and Personal

  • First woman to have her own name line basketball shoe, the Air Swoopes by Nike.
  • Gave birth to her first child, a sone named Jordan, in June 1997 and returned to play her first season in the WNBA just six weeks later.
  • Official Spokeswoman for The March of Dimes
  • Off the court, Sheryl enjoys playing volleyball, shooting pool, shopping and playing video games.
  • Nicknamed "Wind" by Houston Comets fans because of her quick and graceful style of play.
  • Aspires to be a professional sports broadcaster following her career in the WNBA.
