National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Keynote Speaker: Julie Croteau

Photo of Julie Croteau Julie Croteau has dedicated her life to helping women and girls find opportunities in baseball. Croteau, 26, fought her first battle as a 12th grader, in 1988, when she sued Osborne Park High in Manassas, Va., because it didn't allow girls to play baseball. Though she lost the case, she went on to become the first woman to play NCAA baseball, in '89, when she played first base for Division III St. Mary's (Md.) College. She also became the first woman to coach Division I baseball, as an assistant at Massachusetts in '95-96. What she's really proud of, though, is the fact that the glove she used in college now resides at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
