2008-09: Named Top Newcomer for the outdoor season. First UB javelin thrower to eclipse 200 feet with a school record toss of 209-9 at the Campbell/Wright Open. Placed fifth at the MAC Outdoor Championships (195-8). Competed at the NCAA East Regionals with a ninth-place finish (203-8). Finished fourth at the Canadian Nationals (207-0).

High School: Earned two letters for coach Shelley Pretty at Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. Set a junior school record in the javelin (51.58m). Named to the Canadian National Team for the 2007 Junior Pan American Games. Also played volleyball in high school.

Personal: Born May 9, 1989. Son of Henry and Barb Garbaty. Has two sisters (Jenna, Andrea). Favorite foods include pizza and ribs. Favorite TV show is Family Guy. Lists his parents and coaches as his greatest athletic influences. Major is undecided.
