UB Track Completes Outdoor SeasonMt. PLEASANT, MI - The UB men's and women's track team competed at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend. The women's team finished in ninth place while the men's team finished in 11th place and both teams saw individuals set some school records. Ruth Conlon (Parry Sound, Ontario/Parry Sounds) was the highest placing individual for the women's team, taking second in the hammer throw with a distance of 175'11.00". Udoka Odeke (Nigeria) placed third in the 800-meter run, finishing with a school-record time of 2:11.86. UB Female Athlete of the Year Shelly Hamilton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5'07.00". Hamilton's season is not yet over as she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in a meet earlier this year. Hamilton should find out later this week if she will be making her second straight appearance and Head Coach Dick Barry thinks there is a good chance she will qualify. The Bulls had two runners place in the 400-meter hurdles. Lisa Kragbe (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) was a fifth-place finisher for the Bulls with a time of 1:02.88 and Katie Scott (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) finished eighth. In the preliminaries, Scott set the school record in this event with a time of 1:02.75. Alycia Croak (Painted Post, NY/Corning-PP West) was the other top ten finisher for the Bulls, taking seventh place in the triple jump with a distance of 38'09.75". As a team, the Bulls finished in ninth place with a team score of 24.5. Akron took the team championship with Eastern Michigan and Kent finishing second and third. For the men's team, there were three top finishing individuals, and three school records that were set as well. Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) was the highest placing individual, taking third in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 48'11.00". Rashidi Greene (Webster, NY/Aquinas Institute) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 186'03.00", setting a new UB record with that distance. Another top finisher for the Bulls was Tony David (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls), who took fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 9:19.35. Aaron Parker (Albion, NY/D'Amico) set a school record with a time of 14.94 in the preliminaries of the 110-meter high hurdles as well. The UB men's team finished in 11th place overall with 21 points. Eastern Michigan took
top team honors as Central Michigan and Western Michigan followed in second and third place.
