Scott Leads Women In Good Showing

The Bulls made their first of three trips to Kent, OH this winter as part of the first Kent Invitational of the season and had several excellent performances.

The women had two first place finishers as well as one second, third and fourth place finisher in the event. The men, meanwhile, also had two first place finishers.

There was no team scoring at the event.

The Bulls' women's team received a standout performance from junior Katie Scott (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) as UB had five performers finish in the top five.

Scott won the 300-meter hurdles in a school record time of :45.40, breaking her own mark of :46.62, and also participated on the victorious distance medley relay team that won in a time of 12:15.54. Other members of that team were Christina Keck (Erie, PA/McDowell), Lisa Luce (Varysburg, NY/Attica) and Casey Spencer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post). That time qualified the quartet for the ECAC Championships on March 3-4.

In addition, junior Sarah Kranzler (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) finished second in the pentathlon with 3,316 points, qualifying her for the MAC Championships.

Meanwhile, freshman Deven Fister (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) set a new school record in the pole vault (10-2") and finished third overall. Keck also placed fourth in the 800 meters (2:15.44) while Melissa Ryan (Oswego, NY/Oswego) was seventh in the 55-meter hurdles (:8.44), senior Theresa Humennyj (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was eighth in the 800 meters (2:19.20) and freshman Janelle Callender (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Tech) was ninth in both the 55 meters (:7.32) and the 200 meters (:25.67).

The Bulls' 1,600-medley relay team of Monk, Brian Williams (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), Steve Hoskins (Buffalo, NY/Traditional) and Marlon Rowe (Brooklyn, NY/Wingate) finished fourth in a time of 3:19.85 and qualified for the IC4A Championships.
