Woods, Grimes, Maskulinski, Godin earn accolades
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's outdoor track and field squad announced its team awards for the 2008-09 season. Head coach Vicki Mitchell made the following presentations: Kristy Woods was selected as the Top Newcomer; Allison Grimes earned the Most Improved Player Award; Tiffany Maskulinski received the Coaches’ Award for the second consecutive year; and Caitlin Godin was named Most Outstanding.
 Tiffany Woods |
The Top Newcomer Award is presented to the individual student-athlete who distinguishes herself as the most talented new player on the team or the individual who accomplishes the greatest achievements as a first-year player. Woods earned All-East honors with her sixth-place finish in the shot put, a season-best 50-1.75, at the NCAA East Regionals. She finished fourth in the shot put (50-0.75) and 19th in the hammer (141-7) at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
 Allison Grimes |
The Most Improved Player Award is presented to the student-athlete who has made the greatest stride or improvement in her performance from the previous season or from the beginning of the season to the end of the season. Grimes ran the anchor in the 4x400-meter relay (3:48.07) to help the Bulls to a third-place finish at the MAC Outdoor Championships. She also finished ninth in the 400-meters (57.17) at the MAC outdoor meet. Grimes posted her top 400-meter time of 56.35 at the Cornell Invitational.
 Tiffany Maskulinski |
The Coaches’ Award is selected by the head coach and is given to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the team virtues as defined by the head coach. The recipient is one who stands out in dedication, commitment, unselfishness and enthusiasm towards helping the team improve. Maskulinski represented UB at the NCAA National Outdoor Championships in the pole vault, however a knee injury in warm ups forced her to scratch from the competition. She finished third at the NCAA East Regionals with a season-best vault of 13-1.75 to earn All-East honors for the second consecutive season and placed fourth (12-1.50) at the MAC Outdoor Championships. She was also named to the Academic All-MAC outdoor team.
 Caitlin Godin |
The Most Outstanding Award is given to the student-athlete who makes the most significant contribution to the accomplishments of the team through her skills and leadership. Godin was a second-team All-MAC selection with her second-place finish in the heptathlon at the MAC Outdoor Championships, scoring 5,096 points, just 20 points shy of the school record. She also ran with UB's 4x100-meter (48.50) and 4x400-meter relay (3:48.07) entries at the MAC meet. She was also named to the Academic All-MAC outdoor team.
The Bulls completed their season with a seventh-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships in Akron, OH in May. UB also tied for 23rd among 55 schools at the NCAA East Regionals in Greensboro, NC.
