First Day of NCAA Track Championships Rained OutAUSTIN, TX - Torrential rains forced the cancellation of the first day's events at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships at the University of Texas on Wednesday. Buffalo's Laura Olson (Lyons, NY/Lyons) and Allison Laske (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) were both scheduled to compete - in the pole vault and 800 prelims - but fell victim to the rains that are causing flooding in surrounding areas. Olson did get in one vault before the rains came, and cleared the opening height on her first attempt. The track events never got underway. Meet officials were posting a new schedule for the remaining three days at midnight (CST) this evening. Both Olson and Laske are expected to be competing tomorrow with the rescheduling. The third Bulls' athlete competing at the event, decathlete Steve Esler (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) is scheduled to begin competition on Friday. The schedule and results can be followed online at the following web site: http://www.ncaasports.com/outdoortrack/mens |
