BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior track and field athlete Tina Villa (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team, as chosen by member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Villa, a management major with a 3.81 GPA, won the Mid-American Conference title in the shot put at the MAC Indoor Championships in March. Villa’s winning toss of 51-1.75 (15.59m) was a personal best and earned Villa an NCAA provisional qualifying distance. Her throw was more than a foot better than the second-place throw and earned her a spot on the All-MAC First Team.

Earlier this spring, Villa was awarded the Clifford C. Furnas Award at UB's Division of Athletics Academic Celebration. The Furnas Award is provided through annual interest earnings from the C.C. Furnas Fund in the University at Buffalo Foundation, Inc. and recognizes outstanding undergraduate performance in scholarship and athletic prowess.

Villa has one more season of outdoor track and field eligibility remaining.
