A sophomore psychology major, Thompson has compiled a 3.929 grade point average while setting UB's shot put records during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. Thompson set the school indoor record with a toss of 44-8.25 (13.62m) at the Marc Deneault Invitational at Cornell University on February 16 to win the event. She also took first in the 20-lb. weight throw at 53-8.50. She completed the outdoor season last weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championships in Ypsilanti, MI with a school-record toss of 45-7 (13.77m) in the shot put, breaking the old mark by nearly two feet and finishing sixth overall. Thompson also competed at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia during the outdoor season, placing 12th in the Eastern Shot Put competition.

Thompson compiled a 4.0 GPA in the fall 2001 semester and was also named to the Mid-American Conference Scholar Commissioner's List. Athletically, she was selected as UB's Most Improved Indoor Track and Field Athlete after being named the Top Newcomer in 2001.
