UB Women's Track Places Four on Academic All-MAC Team

Donofrio, Jezorski, Koeppel and Thompson selected for academic and athletic achievements

BUFFALO, NY - Four University at Buffalo student-athletes were named to the women's outdoor track and field Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, the league announced today in Cleveland. Voting was conducted by the MAC's faculty athletic representatives.

A total of 31 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-MAC women's team. The number of honorees is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.

Named to the team were Jennie Donofrio (Pittsford, NY/Penfield), Jen Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside), Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst), and Faith Thompson (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls). Jezorski, Koeppel and Thompson were also named to the Academic All-MAC indoor squad announced in March.

Thompson, who graduated with a degree in psychology with a 3.973 grade point average and is currently pursuing a master's degree in school counseling, returned to the team after redshirting the 2003-04 season. In the 2005 outdoor season, she won the league's hammer throw title with her record-setting toss of 198-10 (60.60m) to break her own UB, MAC and Ohio track records and earn First Team All-MAC honors on the field. Thompson also placed third in the shot put at 50-5.50 (15.38m) at the MAC meet. Thompson has now won the hammer throw in seven of UB's eight meets this season. A two-time MAC Field Athlete of the Week and five-time MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Thompson has qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships in the hammer and shot put. She also set the UB shot put record at the Bucknell Bison Open on April 16 with a throw of 50-9.25 (15.47m).

Academic All-MAC honorees must be sophomores or higher, carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 and participate in 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport to be eligible for the yearly honor. First-year athletes and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
