MAC Track and Field Championships ConcludeBUFFALO, NY - Kent State University senior Nathan Fanger won the discus for the third straight time at the Mid-American Conference Championships in the day's final event to give the Golden Flashes the men's title while the Ball State Cardinals overtook Kent to claim the women's title as the three-day event concluded at the University at Buffalo. On the men's side Kent, with 124 points, beat out Western Michigan (116), Central Michigan (106), Eastern Michigan (87), Akron (75.5), Ball State (74), Bowling Green (59), Toledo (54), Buffalo (45), Miami of Ohio (29), Marshall (27.5) and Ohio University (22). On the women's side, Ball State racked up 157 points to top Kent State (151.5), Eastern Michigan (137.5), Central Michigan (106), Akron (94.5), Toledo (42), Buffalo (41.5), Bowling Green (35), Ohio University (20.5), Western Michigan (18) and Miami of Ohio (13.5). The men's coach of the year was Kent's Steve Rainbolt while Akron's LaShaunte Edwards was named Outstanding Performer of the meet (most point) while Central Michigan's Ryan Watson was tabbed with the Outstanding Performance of the meet. Edwards won the 200-meter dash, finished second in the 100-meters and led the Zips to the 4x100-meter relay title. Watson won both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter events. The women's coach of the year was Sue Parks of Ball State while Eastern Michigan's Domtila Mwei earned the most points in the event and Central Michigan's Kari Karhoff was honored with the Outstanding Performance of the meet. Mwei won the 800 and 1,500 meter events and was fourth in the 5,000 meters while Karhoff won the 400-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash and was part of the second-place Central Michigan 4x200-meter relay team.
