Men Fifth, Women Seventh at MAC Championships
The Mid-American Conference Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships concluded with the UB men finishing in fifth place in the overall standings with 89 points while the UB women took seventh in their field scoring 61 points, a point and a half shy of sixth-place Ball State’s 62.50. Homestanding Akron won both the men’s and women’s titles.
Hill Wins MAC Long Jump Title

Fatimah Hill won the 2009 MAC women’s long jump crown, her first-ever MAC title, as she took the event with a leap of 19-9.75 (6.04m) to win by more than five inches over second-place finisher Ashley Hunault of Western Michigan. Hill, who has already qualified for this month’s NCAA East Regional Championships, was the only individual to clear six meters. She also finished sixth in the triple jump at 38-11 (11.86m).
Madonia Highlights Men’s Competition

Men’s shot putter
Jake Madonia earned an NCAA East Regional qualification distance with his second-place finish. Madonia posted a throw of 55-1.50 (16.80m), just meeting the minimum distance. The throw was a season-best for Madonia as he added almost five inches to his top mark. It will be Madonia’s second trip to the regional championships.
Godin Finishes Second in Heptathlon

Caitlin Godin finished second in the women’s heptathlon, just missing the school record in the seven-event competition. Godin finished with 5,096 points, 20 points off of Patrice Coney’s 2007 mark when Coney won the MAC title. Diana Dumitrescu of Kent State won the competition with 5,429 points. Godin’s top finish among the seven events was a second-place tie in the high jump at 5-7.25 (1.71m). She also helped the women’s 4x400-meter relay to a third-place finish in a season-best time of 3:48.07.
Men’s Relayers Break School Record

The UB men had a record breaking performance in the 4x100-meter relay finals as the foursome of
Dan Schichtel,
Ezekiel Porter,
Dan Harris and
Brian Smith finished in second place in 40.46 seconds, lowering the school record of 40.62, set earlier in the season. The time also lowered the NCAA East Regional qualifying mark for the event. Harris also posted a second-place individual finish in the men’s 100-meters in a season-best 10.56, two-hundredths of a second off the school record. Schichtel, the UB record holder in the event, was seventh in 10.87.
Connors Leads Men’s Hurdlers

Also picking up a second-place finish for the UB men was
John Connors. Connors turned in a season-best time of 52.70 in the 400-meter hurdles as the Bulls scored three individuals in the race.
James Thurn was sixth in 54.50 and
Brendan Hagerty was eighth in 55.25.
