Bulls Complete MAC ChampionshipsMT. PLEASANT, MI The University at Buffalo completed the Mid-American Conference Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships on Saturday with three school records and an improved men's overall showing from last season.
In the women's championship, the Bulls placed ninth among 13 squads with 45 points. Eastern Michigan finished first at 117.5, ahead of Miami (106), Akron (95), Kent State (86), Western Michigan (83), Ball State (68), Central Michigan (62.5), Toledo (59), UB, Ohio (43), Bowling Green (36), Marshall (15) and Northern Illinois (3). The foursome turned in a second-place finish of 3:12.66, just a second shy of the school record set in 1995. Weinstein, Abbey and Clark were joined by Mario Hicks (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) to form the 4x100 relay team that took fifth in 41.53, tying the school record set last season. Individually, Hicks took fourth in the 110 hurdles in 14.74 with Erich Smithson (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) finishing seventh in the race in 14.87. Clark placed fifth in the 400-meters in 47.45. Jerimie Slick (Rochester, NY/Greece-Olympia) took sixth in the 5,000-meters in 14:40.13. Dan Simpson (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) tied for eighth in the pole vault at 15-1.
The Bulls will have one more chance to improve on their season results with the NCAA
East Regional meet May 30 and 31 in Fairfax, VA. Throughout the regular season, UB has qualifyed
eight athletes in nine events for the competition that will determine the field for the NCAA Championships
to be held in Sacramento, CA next month. |
