Track & Field Weekly Release - May 8, 2000Bulls Hosts UB Open The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams hosted their second meet of the outdoor season this past weekend. Athletes from several Canadian club teams and Penn State-Behrend in addition to unattached athletes comprised the Bulls' competition at the UB Open. This was a non-scoring meet.
UB Breaks More Records The Bulls kept their record-breaking tear alive as five school records were broken this past weekend. Jenelle Callender (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Tech) set two herself as she placed first in both the 100 (:11.98) and 200 (:24.49) meter dashes. Sarah Kranzler (Central Square, NY/Pauyl V. Moore) bettered her own school record in the heptathlon with 4,653 points. Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) set a new mark for the fourth time in the triple jump with his first place leap of 50-11" and Steve Esler (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) won the decathlon with a record-setting 6,048 points. Buffalo has set new school records for the eighth consecutive week of competition.
Buffalo First-Place Performances Leading the Buffalo effort was Sarah Fletcher (Crystal Beach, ONT/Crystal Beach-Ridgeway) who swept the shot put (38-9 1/2"), discus (134-3"), hammer (180-1"), and javelin (105'1"). Udo Okeke (Seattle, WA/Lagos) won the 800 meters (2:10.31). Adam Smith (Varysburg, NY/Attica) placed first in both the shot put (49-1") and the discus (142-4") while Kamau Halim claimed the
110-high hurdles (:15.00). |
