Bulls Conclude Regular Season with UB Open

The UB men's and women's track and field teams hosted the UB Open on Saturday. There was no team scoring in the event that featured both American and Canadian squads.

Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) captured three events for the Bulls. The senior took the triple jump, tying his own school record with a leap of 50-11 (15.52m). Halim also won the long jump at 24-9.25 (7.55m) and the hammer throw, an event not usually associated with the jumper, with a mark of 54.71m. Halim also competed in the shot put and 100 meters.

Joel Beatty (Holley, NY/Holley) won the 5000 meters in 15:27.28. UB runners captured the top five spots in the race with Jerimie Slick (Greece, NY/Greece Olympia), Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West), Jason Quast (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Todd Ludden (Hornell, NY/Hornell) all finishing on Beatty's heels.

Ben Moskel (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) took the 800 meters in 1:54.52.

Biaunca McFarland (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) set a personal best in the 200 meters, finishing in 24.77, while also leaping 11.97 meters in the triple jump.

Chrissie Matthews (Waterford, NJ/Edgewood) was a double-winner for the Bulls. Matthews captured the 100 hurdles in 15.56 and was also victorious in the high jump at 1.65m.

Other winners for the Bulls' women included Christina Keck (Erie, PA/McDowell) in the 400 meters (58.12), Eileen Rose (Latham, NY/Shaker) in the 800 meters (2:30.94), Danielle Morrell (Oswego, NY/Fulton) in the 1500 meters (4:47.60) and Katie Scott (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) in the 400 hurdles (1:03.06).

In the field events, Laura Olson (Lyons, NY/Lyons) took the pole vault at 11-0. Faith Thompson (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) won the hammer throw at 42.01m and Meagan Rogers (Courtenay, BC/G.P. Vanier) won the javelin at 30.55m.
