Bulls Athletes Set Personal and School Bests

BUFFALO, NY - In the last home meet for UB before the Mid-American Conference Championships on May 18-20, the UB track and field team had some school records set during this weekends UB Open.

On the women's side, Jenelle Callender (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Tech) won both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, setting a school record in both events. She finished with a time of 11.98 in the 100-meter and a time of 24.49 in the 200-meter. In addition, Sarah Kranzler (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) set a school record in the heptathlon. She finished with 4,653 points, good for a second place finish.

In men's events, Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) set a personal best in the 110-meter high hurdles. He placed first in that event with a time of 15.00. In the triple jump, he set a new personal best and a new school record. Halim took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 50-'11.00" to break his own previous school record, the third time he has bettered his own mark this spring. Steve Esler (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) took first place honors in the decathlon with a total score of 6,048 points, also setting a new UB school record.
