Track & Field Weekly Release - May 1, 2000

Bulls Have Busy Weekend of Competition

The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams competed in both the prestigious Penn Relays and Cornell Invitational this past weekend.

Fletcher Buffalo's First Penn Relay Champion

Junior Sarah Fletcher (Crystal Beach, ONT/Crystal Beach-Ridgeway) became Buffalo's first-ever championship winner at the competitive Penn Relays as she won the hammer throw with a toss of 176-6".

Halim Gets MAC Recognition

For his Mid-American Conference-leading, UB record-breaking, first-place triple jump (50-6 1/2") at the UB Invitational (4/22), Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) was named MAC track athlete of the week on April 25.

More UB Records Broken

More Buffalo records fell this past weekend as Adam Smith (Varysburg, NY/Attica) set a new mark and placed first in the discus throw (159-5") at the Cornell Invitational. Smith also won the shot put (48-5 1/2").

Melissa Ryan (Oswego, NY/Oswego) is now the new UB 100-meter hurdle record-holder after her :14.07 time at the Penn Relays. The women's relay squads were on fire as the 4x400 (3:48.45), 4x100 (:47.91), and 4x200 (1:42.28) relays all set new UB marks at the Penn Relays.

Buffalo has set new school records for the seventh consecutive week of competition.
