Bulls sweep conference's selections of top performers
BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo athletes Ezekiel Porter and Lataya Dixon have been named the Mid-American Conference Men's and Women's Track Athletes of the Week, the league announced from its Cleveland headquarters this morning.
 Ezekiel Porter |
Porter was part of two relays at the Penn Relays, helping one to a school record and another to a season-best time. Porter ran the second leg of UB's 4x100-meter relay as the Bulls lowered the school record to 40.62 as the team finished second in the IC4A final. The junior also ran the opening leg of UB's 4x400-meter relay to a season-best 3:13.53. He combined with
Dan Schichtel,
Dan Harris and
Brian Smith in the 4x100-meter relay. The foursome for the 4x400-meter relay included Porter,
Matt Armstrong,
Shaun Brummert and
Isaiah Mask.
 Lataya Dixon |
Dixon shattered her own school record in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, MI. The sophomore lowered her record in the event to 13.77 after she had previously set the standard of 14.04 at the Northeast Ohio Invitational on April 11. The time also broke the Gina Relays record of 13.80, set in 1993, earned Dixon a qualifying mark for next month's NCAA East Regional Championships and is the fastest time in the MAC this season. Prior to Dixon's record-setting performances, Melissa Ryan held the mark at 14.07, set in 2000. Dixon also placed sixth in the 100-meters in 12.11 and seventh in the high jump at 5-5 (1.65m) at the Gina meet.
The Bulls travel to Ithaca on Saturday for the Cornell Outdoor Invitational.
