Vance Wins MAC Weekly Honors
BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's track and field athlete Sarah Vance (Lockport, NY/Lockport) was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Field Co-Athlete of the Week, the league announced in Cleveland on Tuesday night. Vance shared this week's honor with Akron hammer thrower Amy Lavalley. Vance had a record-setting performance at last Saturday's UB Open. She broke Sarah Fletcher's 2002 mark to win the discus throw with a toss of 156-7 (47.75m). The throw also earned the junior an NCAA Regional qualifying mark. She has now established qualifying distances in the discus and shot put and will compete in the regional meet at Manhattan on Memorial Day weekend. This is the third field award for UB throwers this season to lead the MAC. Faith Thompson (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls), the school recordholder in the shot put and hammer throws, earned the award twice this season. UB competes this weekend at Hillsdale College's Gina Relays. |
