Track Teams Complete Competition at Gina Relays

Sebuharara and Brown tie for first in men's triple jump

HILLSDALE, MI – The University at Buffalo’s men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Hillsdale Gina Relays against several Mid-American Conference programs as well as some top Midwestern teams as the event concluded Saturday. There was no team scoring at the meet.

Leading the Bulls were a pair of jumpers as they tied for the top spot in their event. Loic Sebuharara (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and Chandler Brown (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) both leapt 46-4 (14.12m) to tie for first place in the men’s triple jump.

The UB women got a strong finish from its javelin throwers as Vanessa Roelofsen (Alma, Ontario/Norwell District SS) and Katie Weston (North Bay, Ontario/Widdifield SS) finished second and fourth, respectively. Roelofsen finished with a toss of 135-2 (41.20m) while Weston threw 130-2 (39.68m).

Men’s thrower George Fetchko (Warren, OH/Howland) had a third-place finish in the men’s shot put at 54-1 (16.48m) and also took fourth in the discus with a season-best throw of 153-3 (46.72m).

On the track, the Bulls picked up a third-place finish to go along with a pair of fourths and a pair of fifths. In the men’s open division of the 1500-meters, Dan Giza (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) finished third in a season-best mark of 3:53.85.

Finishing in fourth place for the Bulls were distance runners Jessica Schultz (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) and Ryan Bloom (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport). Schultz completed the women’s open 5,000-meters in 18:24.01. Bloom was fourth in the men’s open division of the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:39.33. Megan Niblock (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) placed fifth in the women’s open division of the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:00.17. Jamal Norward (Buffalo, NY/Hamburg) finished fifth in the men’s 110-meter hurdles in 15.55.

Both squads will compete next weekend at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational.
