Track & Field Weekly Release - April 24, 2000Bulls Host Buffalo Invitational The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams hosted Canisius, several Division III schools and unattached competitors in their first home meet of the 2000 outdoor campaign. The men downed Canisius, 306-115, while the UB women won, 355-118.
Halim Breaks His Own School Record Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) set a new UB mark in the triple jump for the third time this season. His latest jump of 50-6 1/4" is also the best in the Mid-American Conference. Buffalo has set new school records for the sixth consecutive week of competition.
UB Has Many Winners Leading the Bulls with firsts was senior Sarah Fletcher (Crystal Beach, ONT/Crystal Beach-Ridgeway) who won the javelin (98-9"), and hammer throws (170-1"). Biaunca McFarland (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) placed first in the 100 meters (:12.78) and triple jump (38-6"), Sarah Kranzler (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) who was victorious in the 200 meters (:25.65) and long jump (17-2 3/4"), and Melissa Ryan (Oswego, NY/Oswego) who swept the 100 high (:14.21) and 400 intermediate hurdles (1:02.67). For the men, Kamau Halim was a multiple winner as he claimed the long (22-9") and triple jumps. Other individual winners were Tony David (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls) (1500 meters - 4:04.90) , Keith Gentes (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricksen) (hammer - 183-2"), Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (3000 meter steeple chase - 9:38.02), Brian Williams (New Hartford, NY) (400 intermediate hurdles - :54.22), and Adam Smith (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (shot put - 48-11 3/4).
