Brian Smith Selected MAC Track Athlete of the Week Junior sprinter recognized for record breaking performance
BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo athlete Brian Smith has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced from its Cleveland headquarters this morning. Smith, a junior sprinter, broke his own record in the 200-meters at last Saturday's UB Invitational with his clocking of 21.13. The time sliced .16 seconds from his performance of the previous week at the Northeast Ohio Invitational when he first broke the school record. Smith also instrumental in UB's two relay victories at the meet. He ran the anchor leg of the 4x100-meter relay to a school record time of 40.65, bettering the previous record by a quarter-second. He also ran a leg of the 4x400-meter relay to a first-place finish in 3:15.74. Smith, along with UB's men's relayers and men's and women's weight throwers, will compete this weekend at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia against some of the nation's top opposition.
