Outdoor Track Weekly ReleaseBulls Split Teams For Weekend Meets While most of the Bulls' men's and women's track and field squads were hosting the UB Open, other members of the team were in Knoxville, TN at the Sea Ray Relays. UB set school records in both the men's and women's competitions in Knoxville. The women's 4x400 relay team of Janelle Callender (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Tech), Christina Keck (Erie, PA/McDowell), Biaunca McFarland (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) and Katie Scott (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) set a new mark with a 3:48.33 showing, breaking the old record of 3:48.45 set last season. Mike Commisso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) broke his own record in the 800 meters in 1:51.83, lowering his 1:52.00 set last year. Meanwhile, at the UB Open, the Bulls breezed past Canisius. The men downed the Griffs 105-63 while the women were also victorious by a 114-69 count. The UB women scored 12 first-place finishes. Freshman thrower Faith Thompson (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) was a double winner ,taking the shot put at 42-4.25 (12.91m) and hammer at 142-5 (43.42m). Junior Chrissie Matthews (Waterford, NJ/Edgewood) took the high jump at 5-7 (1.70m) and the 100 hurdles in 15.96. Also taking individual events for the UB women were Diane Corredor (Westfield, NY/Westfield) in the 200 (26.59), Allison Laske (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) in the 400 (1:00.07), Danielle Morrell (Oswego, NY/G. Ray Bodley) in the 800 (2:17.98), Hollie Rhodes (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) in the 1500 (4:58.20), Melissa Burrows (Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) in the 3000 (11:02.82), Laura Olson (Lyons, NY/Lyons) in the pole vault (10-9), Aimie Sarkodie-Mensah (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) in the triple jump (36-2, 11.02m) and Meagan Rogers (Courtenay, BC/G.P. Vanier) in the heptathlon (4,371 points). The UB men won 10 events. In the sprints, Noah Burroughs (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) took the 100 in 11.02 while Pete Otovic (DeWitt, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) took the 400 in 49.21 and Tim Giagios (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) won the 400 hurdles in 56.53. Distance specialist Chris Kuroski (Buffalo, NY/St. Mary's) won the 5000 in 15:52.82. The Bulls dominated the field competition, taking six of the eight events. In the jumps, Dan Simpson (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) won the pole vault at 14-6. Tory Smith (Centereach, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) took the long jump (21-10, 6.65m) and Mark Curry (Brockport, NY/Brockport) won the triple jump (48-2, 14.68m). UB's throwing winners included Joe Loiacano (Rochester, NY/Greece-Olympia) in the shot put (50-10.25), Adam Smith (Varysburg, NY/Attica) in the discus (166-3) and Todd Skinner (Eden, NY/Eden) in the javelin (154-8).
