Barry Hits 600-Win MilestoneBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo's men's and women's track and field coach Dick Barry surpassed the 600-career win plateau as UB competed in the McDonald's Invitational track meet hosted by Ohio University this past weekend. Barry, whose career record now stands at 602-249-1, has been at the helm of the UB track and field and cross country programs for 15 years. Under his direction, the cross country teams have won 13 conference championships while the track and field teams have won four conference crowns. Also under his guidance, the Buffalo program has produced 10 All-Americans, including UB's first Division I Female All-American in 1998, two UB Hall of Fame athletes and has had 13 student-athletes have qualify for Nationals. He has been selected the Coach of the Year five times. Prior to his appointment at Buffalo in 1985, Barry was a successful high school coach at Williamsville North and Williamsville East high schools where he was selected as the Western New York Coach of the Year twice. In addition to coaching the University at Buffalo men's and women's track and cross country teams, Barry has also served as the Sport Chairman for the World University Games held at UB in July of 1993, the Director of Competition for the World Master's Track and Field, Cross Country, and Marathon Championships in July of 1995, and the Meet Director for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at UB Stadium in 1998. He is currently making preparations for the 2000 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, to be hosted by UB, May 18-20. Additionally, Barry has been an administrator and clinician with the U.S. Olympic Committee, serving as the Eastern Region Coordinator for the heptathlon and also as head clinician at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY, where he specialized in the multi events from 1981-86. Barry received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration ('66), as well as his master's degree
in Business Education ('68) from the University at Buffalo. |
