Stephanie Bristow to Join UB Women's Track Team
BUFFALO, NY – Women's track and field and head cross country coach Vicki Mitchell has announced the signing of Stephanie Bristow (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) to a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at the University at Buffalo. Bristow is expected to be a middle and long distance runners for the Bulls as well as compete with the cross country team. She is part of the Elmira Southside team that has sent to Buffalo former women's steeplechase recordholder Hollie Rhodes and 2006 MAC mile champion Jen Jezorski and current UB men's distance runner Andrew Brusso (Wellsburg, NY/Elmira Southside). Bristow has top high school times of 1:39.8 in the 600-meters and 2:16 in the 800-meters. At the state indoor championships, Bristow raced in the 600-meters and was part of the 4x800-meter relay team. She is expected to major in communication. "Stephanie is continuing the tradition of excellent distance runners coming to UB from Elmira Southside," said Mitchell. "I am very excited to have Stephanie join our women’s team next year. She’s going to bring in experience in both cross country and track and field." Bristow is the fifth member of UB's 2008-09 recruiting class for women's track and field. She joins Kristy Woods (Mercer, PA/Grove City), Katarina Holowacz (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge-Guilford), Anna Holmes (Freedom, NY/Pioneer) and Jackie Burns (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda). A member of the Mid-American Conference, the University at Buffalo cross country and track and field programs compete at the NCAA Division I national level. |
