Outdoor Track Weekly ReleaseStrong Performances at Akron Quad The Bulls' track squads raced at the Akron Quad Meet. UB's women finished third among the four teams with 146 points as Akron won with 202 points. The Bulls' men were fourth among the four squads with 121 points while the Zips finished first with 189 points. UB thrower Adam Smith (Varysburg, NY/Attica) set a new school record in winning the discus throw with a toss of 50.94 meters breaking the record he had set the previous week at the Alabama Relays. Smith also placed second in the shot put at 15.01 meters. UB's Bryan Lundy (Stormville, NY/Carmel) won the javelin throw at 56.54 meters, while Keith Gentes (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) was victorious in the hammer throw at 56.14 meters. Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) also posted a first-place showing taking the triple jump with a leap of 15.03 meters. Mike Commisso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) finished second in the 400 meters in 48.16. The time was four-hundreths of a second off Fumu Gakodi's 1994 school record of 48.12. Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and Tom Stuart (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) placed third and fourth respectively in the 1500 meters in 4:04.36 and 4:05.86. UB's women got a strong effort from Jenelle Callender (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Tech), who won the 200 meter dash in 25.16 seconds while also placing second in the 100 meters in 12.39. Biaunca McFarland (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) won the triple jump at 11.84 meters. The Bulls finished one-two in the event with Aimie Sarkodie-Mensah (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) taking second at 10.73 meters. McFarland was also third in the 100 meters in 12.46 and the 200 meters in 25.50. Danielle Morrell (Oswego, NY/G. Ray Bodley) took second place in the 800 meters in 2:20.10 while Megan Rogers (Courtenay, BC/G.P. Vanier) finished second in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.16. Chrissie Matthews (Waterford, NJ/Edgewood) was third in the high jump at 1.60 meters while Jessica Moldovan (Warren, PA/Warren Area) placed fourth in the 1500 meters in 5:02.48.
