RALEIGH, NC – The University at Buffalo’s men’s and women’s track and field teams competed against some of the East's top opponents at the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University. There was no team scoring in the meet.

The lone win by the Bulls at the Raleigh meet was in the men s javelin as freshman Casey Garbaty broke the UB record and earned a spot in May s NCAA East Regionals. Garbaty became the first UB athlete to eclipse 200 feet with his winning throw of 204-6 (62.33m). The throw broke the 1998 record of Matt Streng (198-10, 60.60m) by nearly six feet. Garbaty improved more than 40 feet from his performance at the Seahawk Invitational.

The UB men broke four school relay records on Saturday. UB's 4x100-meter relay squad finished second in 40.91 seconds to break the school mark of 40.99 set in 2006. The Bulls also broke the school mark in the 4x200-meter relay in 1:25.79 to place fourth overall and cut a second and a half off the mark set in 2002. UB also set a new record in the 4x800-meter relay as they finished sixth in 7:36.05, more than six seconds off the 2001 mark. Additionally, the men's 1,600-meter sprint medley relay team finished fifth in 3:26.63, cutting the 2002 record by a second and a half.

Individually, the UB men had three sprinters reach the finals of the 100-meter dash. Brian Smith and Dan Harris tied for eighth in 10.75 with Dan Schichtel tying for 11th place in 10.88.

Other top 10 finishes for the UB men included Matt Gac placing fifth in the discus at 162-2 (49.42m) and eighth in the hammer throw at 181-8 (55.38m). Ryan Bloom took sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:35.02. John Connors placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 53.68. Corey Knox was ninth in the discus at 157-3 (47.94m). Jacob Hagen finished 10th in the 5,000-meters in 14:58.68.
