Strong Results at Raleigh Relays

The University at Buffalo track and field teams completed a successful weekend at the Raleigh Relays, one of the largest meets in the East with a first-place finish, a school record and several season-best marks. There was no team scoring at the meet hosted by North Carolina State.

Lister Wins Pole Vault

UB junior Jessica Lister (Rodman, NY/South Jefferson) won the women's pole vault competition with a height of 11-9.75 (3.60m). Sophomore teammate Carrie Hinners (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove) placed 10th in the event with a season-best vault of 11-3.75 (3.45m). It was the second straight pole vault victory this season for the UB women. Hinners took the top spot at the UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Invtational the previous week with a mark of 11-10.50 (3.42m)

Roelofsen Breaks Javelin Record

Sophomore Vanessa Roelofsen (Alma, Ontario/Norwell District SS) broke her own school record to place second in the women's javelin competition. Roelofsen set the new mark with a toss of 162-2 (49.43m) to break her old mark, set in her first collegiate competition as a freshman last season, by five inches. The toss also improved Roelofsen's qualifying distance for the NCAA East Regionals at the end of the season. Akron's Ashley Kaufman won the event with a throw of 170-0 (51.83m).

Richards, Leonard Lead Men’s Results

In the men's meet, junior Roy Richards (Rochester, NY/Edison Tech) finished third in the long jump at 23-11.75 (7.31m). Richards also finished 11th in the 100-meters in 11.07 after turning in a season-best 10.98 clocking in the prelimaries. Junior Andy Leonard (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili) placed fourth in the unseeded portion of the men's 5,000-meter run in a season-best 15:01.48. The time by Leonard was an improvement of 47 seconds from the UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Invitational.

Distance Runners Post Impressive Finishes

On the track, senior Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst) scored a second-place finish with her 36:09.89 clocking in the 10,000-meter run while senior Jen Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) took third in the 1,500-meters in 4:31.90 to lead UB’s women’s distance runners. In the field events, sophomore Caitlin Godin (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) finished fifth in the high jump with a season-best height of 5-5 (1.65m).
