Faith Thompson Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week
BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's track and field athlete Faith Thompson (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Co-Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league announced in Cleveland. Thompson and Eastern Michigan softball player Elizabeth Flack shared the award. Thompson, a fifth-year senior thrower, earned All-East honors at the ECAC Championships with her third-place finish in the 20-pound weight throw on March 6. Thompson's throw of 65-6.75 (19.98m), more than 10 inches better than her previous best, broke the Mid-American Conference record and extended her existing school record. Thompson, a psychology major with a 3.973 grade point average, also was named to the Academic All-MAC Indoor Track and Field squad earlier in the week. This is the second time that Thompson won the award this season. She was also honored on January 25 after a record-breaking performance at the Cornell Challenge. UB athletes have been honored as the MAC Male or Female Scholar Athlete of the Week 10 times during the 2004-05 academic year. Only Eastern Michigan (11) has had more weekly winners than the Bulls. In 2003-04, UB had seven weekly selections. The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to both a MAC male and
female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during
that week's competition. The winners are selected by a voting group of the conference's faculty
athletic representatives. |
