Outdoor Track Weekly ReleaseThe University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first outdoor event of the 2000 season as they travelled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to take part in the Coastal Carolina Spring Break Classic. This was a non-scoring meet.
Bulls Break Three School Records Buffalo continued their record-breaking tear from the indoor track and field season and set three new UB marks at the meet. Katie Scott (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) set a new record in the 400 meter hurdles (:61.84) and captured first in that event. Freshman Deven Fister (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) turned in a impressive performance in the pole vault (10-6") as she placed third and broke UB's existing record. Steve Esler (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) became the new Buffalo record-holder in the high jump with a leap of 6-8 3/4".
Other Notable Performances Other top performances included first-place finishes by Sarah Fletcher (Crystal Beach, Ontario/Ridgeway-Crystal Beach ) in the hammer throw (179-9") and Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) in the triple jump (49-33/4"). Fletcher also placed second in the discus with a toss of 141-8".
