BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior women’s track and field athlete Tina Villa (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) has been selected as the Mid-American Conference’s Women’s Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced. She shares the honor with Ball State women’s basketball player Audrey McDonald.

Villa, a management major with a 3.81 GPA, won the MAC title in the shot put at last weekend’s Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships in Ypsilanti, MI. Villa’s winning toss of 51-1.75 (15.59m) was a personal best and earned Villa an NCAA provisional qualifying distance. Her throw was more than a foot better than the second-place throw and earned her a spot on the All-MAC first team.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
