Indoor Track Athletes Named to Academic All-MAC Team
Jezorski, Kohout earn women's honor; Weinstein, Olaleye named to men's team
BUFFALO, NY – Four University at Buffalo indoor track and field athletes have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference men's and women's teams, the league announced today in Cleveland. Named to the women's team were seniors Jen Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) and Kate Kohout (Clarence, NY/Clarence), while senior Bryan Weinstein (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) and sophomore Babaseyi Olaleye (Lagos, Nigeria/Lagos) earned recognition to the men's squad.
Jen Jezorski | Jezorski, a speech and hearing sciences major with a 3.654 grade point average, also earned All-MAC honors on the track this season winning the mile run in 4:53.39 at the league championships in Bowling Green, OH last month. Jezorski became the first UB woman to claim an individual indoor title in a track event with her win. She also anchored UB's winning distance medley relay team at the meet, the first MAC relay champion in school history. She also anchored the distance medley relay to a school record 11:33.11 at the ECAC Championships in Boston last weekend, picking up All-East honors for the squad for the second consecutive year. Jezorski set UB indoor records in the 1,000-meters (2:52.06) and mile (4:50.20) earlier this season as well as the relay record. She was also named to the Academic All-MAC squad for cross country last fall as well as the indoor and outdoor teams in the 2005 season.
Kate Kohout | Kohout, a classics major with a 3.694 GPA, was also part the MAC champion and UB record-setting distance medley relay team, running the third of the four legs. She finished fourth in the 800-meters (2:12.77) at the MAC Championships and posted UB's fastest time in the event (2:11.79) earlier this season. Kohout also anchored UB's 4x400-meter relay squad this season, posting a top time of 3:52.79 at the ECAC meet. She was also named indoor Academic All-MAC in 2005.
Bryan Weinstein | Weinstein, a management major with a 3.814 GPA, overcame injuries to anchor the 4x400-meter relay squad to a school-record (3:16.20) at the Akron Open in February, helping the team qualify for a spot in the IC4A Championships last weekend. The squad finished second at the MAC Championships, earning Weinstein an All-MAC Second Team honor. Individually, he finished seventh in the 200-meter dash at the MAC meet and set season-best times of 7.10 in the 60-meters and 22.07 in the 200-meters at the season-opening Kent State Black Squirrel Classic in January.
Olaleye, a mechanical engineering major with a 3.502 GPA, set season-best marks of 24.08 for the 200-meters and 51.81 for the 400-meters this season. He finished 17th at the MAC Championships in the 400-meter race last month. He was also part of UB's 4x400-meter relay team that finished eighth at Penn State's Sykes-Sabock Challenge in February.
There were 25 women’s honorees and 21 men’s honorees on the 2006 list. The number is either set for a specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
