Laske, Olson Take ECAC Titles
BOSTON, MA - Two University at Buffalo women's track and field athletes won individual titles at the ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. The women's squad tallied 28 team points to finish 10th in a field of 45 scoring teams. UB's men were unable to score in the IC4A meet. Middle-distance runner Allison Laske (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) and pole vaulter Laura Olson (Lyons, NY/Lyons) won individual titles to lead the UB women. Laske twice broke the school record in the 800-meter run to complete her charge to the title. In the preliminary heats, Laske turned in an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 2:08.59 and cut Udo Okeke's 2000 UB record of 2:09.32 by three-quarters of a second. Laske's time was also the fastest among the field's 23 entrants. In the finals, Laske again cut the school record by another second and won the championship with a 2:07.62 clocking, two seconds ahead of her nearest competitors.
The Bulls also scored a pair in the women's pentathlon as Meagan Rogers (Courtenay, BC/George P. Vanier) and Patrice Coney (Lyons, NY/Lyons) finished fourth and sixth, respectively. Rogers scored 3,504 points in the five-event competition, just missing her school record by four points. The total was also three points higher than her 3,501 total set at last week's Mid-American Conference Championships. Coney, meanwhile, scored 3,447 points, besting her MAC meet mark by almost 100 points. Jennifer Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was 13th in the mile in 4:58.91. Sarah Vance (Lockport, NY/Lockport) took 15th in the shot put (43-10.50, 13.37m) and 21st in the weight throw (50-2, 15.23m). The 4x400 relay team of Stacy Downer (Philadelphia, PA/Dobbins Tech), Celestine Coney (Lyons, NY/Lyons), Krystal Seiling (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) and Vashone Wallace (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna) was 14th in 3:51.53. Dan McKenna (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was 20th in the mile (4:13.30) and Bryan Weinstein (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) placed 29th in the 200-meters (22.17). The distance medley relay team of Rich Juszkiewicz (Rochester, NY/Gates
Chili), Chris McClure (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg), Paul Riley (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) and
