Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF version of the release Bulls Compete At MAC Championships The University at Buffalo men’s and women’s track and field team’s concluded competition at the 2008 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday. UB’s women finished the Championships in sixth place, scoring 50.50 points while the men ended tied for fourth place with 47 points. Akron won the women’s competition with 106 points while Eastern Michigan took the men’s crown with 207 points.
Villa Earns MAC Championships Tina Villa (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) continued her outstanding season, claiming the MAC Championship in the shot put with a NCAA provisional mark and personal best distance of 15.59m. Coney Sets Another School Record In the 60-meter hurdles, Patrice Coney (Lyons, NY/Lyons) set a new school record in the event, finishing sixth while turning in a time of 8.60. On Friday, Coney was a top scorer for the Bulls, taking second place in the Pentathlon. Coney’s outstanding performance included season-best marks in the long jump (5.65m), the high jump (1.66m) and the 800-meter run (2:20.85).
Men Finish Three-Four In Weight Throw Matt Gac (Newark Valley, NY/Newark Valley) claimed third in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 18.32m while teammate Alex Stamatakis (Hania, Crete, Greece/First Technical & Vocational School of Crete) finished in fourth place with a season-best throw of 18.02m. Additionally, Stamatakis took home third place in the shot put, throwing a season-best 16.66m. Porter Pushes Pace Ezekiel Porter (Rochester, NY/Rochester) had an excellent showing in the 60-meter dash, taking second place with a season-best time of 6.86. In addition, Porter earned points for the Bulls in the 200-meter dash, placing sixth (22.16).
Rookie Rocks MAC Freshman Lataya Dixon (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) has had an outstanding first year for the Bulls, as the frosh picked up points for the Bulls in the pentathlon, turning in a personal best and finishing fifth with 3541 points. Dixon inked season-best marks in the 60-meter hurdles (8.91) and the high jump (1.72m). Dixon’s mark in the high jump also serves as UB’s top mark in the event this year. Next Up Qualifying Bulls will compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, MA from Sat., March 8-Sun., March 9. |
