Five UB Tracksters Named to Academic All-MAC Team
Jezorski, Koeppel, Kohout and Thompson named to women's team; Strelick makes men's squad
BUFFALO, NY - Five University at Buffalo student-athletes were named to the indoor track and field Academic
All-Mid-American Conference team, the league announced today in Cleveland. Voting was conducted by the MAC's faculty
athletic representatives.
A total of 27 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-MAC women's team while 16 men's honorees
were selected. The number of honorees is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
UB placed four women on the team, Jen Jezorski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside), Jenny Koeppel (Amherst,
NY/Amherst), Kate Kohout (Clarence, NY/Clarence)
and Faith Thompson (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara
Falls). Steve Strelick (Rochester,
NY/Greece-Athena) was the lone men's representative for the Bulls.
 | | Jen Jezorski | Jezorski, a junior speech and hearing sciences major with a 3.610 grade point average, has qualified for
this weekend's ECAC Championships in four individual events (800-meters, 1,000-meters, mile and 3,000-meters) and as part
of UB's record-setting distance medley relay (11:44.97). Jezorski ran the opening leg of UB's distance medley relay,
which finished third at the MAC Championships and also placed 14th in the mile (5:07.20) at the meet. She was also named to
the cross country Academic All-MAC team in the fall.
 | | Jenny Koeppel | Koeppel, a senior mathematics major with a 3.637 grade point average, has provisionally qualified for this
month's NCAA Championships in the 3,000-meters. She set the school-record in the race in 9:34.55 to finish second at Penn
State's Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup on February 12. She also set two additional records this season (3,000-meters, 9:34.55
and 5,000-meters, 16:55.18). Koeppel finished third in both the 3,000- and 5,000-meters at last weekend's MAC
Championships. This season, she was honored by the MAC as the Scholar Athlete of the Week twice, cross country and track and field
Athlete of the Week five times and was part of the Academic All-MAC cross country team.
 | | Kate Kohout | Kohout, a junior classics major with a 3.695 grade point average, joined Jezorski as part of UB's
record-setting distance medley relay team. She ran the second leg of the race at the MAC Championships, helping the Bulls to a
third-place finish. She also placed 15th at the MAC meet in the mile with a season-best time of 5:08.29.
 | | Faith Thompson | Thompson, a senior psychology major with a 3.973 grade point average, won the MAC's weight throw with
a school-record heave of 64-8.50 (19.72m) and earned All-MAC honors. The throw extended her existing school record,
set earlier in the season and improved her NCAA provisional qualification mark. She also set the the school record in the
shot put (49-9, 15.16m) at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup, finishing third, and has qualified for this weekend's ECAC
Championships in both events. A two-time Verizon Academic All-District honoree, she also earned Academic All-MAC honors
in both indoor and outdoor track in 2003.
 | | Steve Strelick | Strelick, a senior biology major with a 3.345 grade point average, won the mile (4:21.94) at the
season-opening Black Squirrel Invitational on January 15 and finished second in the mile (4:22.73) at Cornell Invitational on January
22. Strelick finished 13th in the 3,000-meters (8:44.08) at the MAC Championships last weekend and was also part of UB's
fifth-place distance medley relay squad.
Academic All-MAC honorees must be a sophomore or higher, carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 and
