Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF version of the release Bulls Compete At Zips Open The University at Buffalo men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed at the Zips Open Friday, February 22 in Akron and returned with a handful of season-best performances and three first place finishes. There was no team scoring at the meet.
Raising The Bar On the women’s side, Tiffany Maskulinski (Elma, NY/Iroquois) won the pole vault, with a season-best and NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 3.97m, a height that beat her nearest competitor by 15 cm. Krott Takes First College Win Freshman Sarah Krott (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford) took home her first collegiate victory, winning the triple jump with a distance of 11.23m. Women Post Handful Of Season Bests Numerous personal best performances were recorded at the Akron Open, including PR’s inked by Gillian Taylor (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergon) in the 800-meter run (2:19.50), Megan Niblock (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) in the mile run (5:32.91), Samantha Tomczak (Orchard Park, NY/West Seneca West) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.56) and Allison Grimes (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown) who finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.91.
Villa, Veith, Johnston Grab Second Also on the women’s side, Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) finished a strong second place in the mile run (5:02.44), Tina Villa (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) took second place in the shot put (14.63m) and Octavia Johnston (Syracuse, NY/Fowler) took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 10.97m and third in both the long jump and the 60-meter dash with a leap of 5.52m and a time of 7.84, respectively. Losi Lone Victor For Men On the men’s side, the Bulls had one individual winner, as freshman Greg Losi (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) won the triple jump with a distance of 13.74m. Losi was competing in his first meet for the Bulls.
Zillmann, Gac Record New Season Bests Personal best marks on the men’s side were turned in by Matt Gac (Newark Valley, NY/Newark Valley), who threw a personal best in the shot put (15.64m) and tied his personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 17.43m. On the track, Ryan Zillmann (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) ran a personal best in the 800-meter run, turning in a time of 1:54.78, good for second place. Next Up The Bulls will compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Eastern Michigan from Feb. 28-March 1. |
