Bulls Compete at Zips OpenAKRON, OH – The University at Buffalo men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed at the Zips Open Friday evening in Akron and returned with a handful of season-best performances and three first place finishes. There was no team scoring at the meet.
On the women’s side, Tiffany Maskulinski (Elma, NY/Iroquois) won the pole vault, with a season-best and NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 3.97m, a height that beat her nearest competitor by 15 cm. Also finishing first on the women’s side was Sarah Krott (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford), who won the triple jump with a distance of 11.23m. In addition, personal best performances were turned in by Gillian Taylor (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergon) in the 800-meter run (2:19.50), Megan Niblock (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) in the mile run (5:32.91), Samantha Tomczak (Orchard Park, NY/West Seneca West) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.56) and Allison Grimes (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown) who finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.91.
Also on the women’s side, Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) finished a strong second place in the mile run (5:02.44), Tina Villa (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) took second place in the shot put (14.63m) and Octavia Johnston (Syracuse, NY/Fowler) took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 10.97m and third in both the long jump and the 60-meter dash with a leap of 5.52m and a time of 7.84, respectively. On the men’s side, the Bulls had one individual winner, as Greg Losi won the triple jump with a distance of 13.74m. Eugene Kennedy (Troy, NY/Troy) took second place in the same event with a jump of 13.31m.
Other personal best marks on the men’s side were turned in by Matt Gac (Newark Valley, NY/Newark Valley), who threw a personal best in the shot put (15.64m) and tied his personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 17.43m. On the track, Ryan Zillmann (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) ran a personal best in the 800-meter run, turning in a time of 1:54.78, good for second place. Jesse Mang (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) also turned in a personal best, finishing the men’s mile in 4:20. In addition, Ryan Bloom (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) finished the mile in a personal best 4:25.73. The Bulls are back in action next weekend, as the team will compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Eastern Michigan.
