UB Puts Up Strong Marks at Kane Inv.

Both squads finished their regular seasons at the Cornell Kane Invitational. There was no team scoring at the meet but the Bulls did put together some impressive highlights.

Senior Sarah Fletcher (Ridgeway, Ontario/Ridgeway-Crystal Beach) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with her first place finish in the 20-pound weight throw. Fletcher, who had already qualified for the ECAC Championships in the event, established a new school record with her toss of 58-10 (17.93m). The throw broke Fletcher's previous school record of 58-6.5 (17.84m) set at last season's Eastern Michigan Invitational. The NCAA Championships begin March 8 in Fayetteville, Ark.

For the fourth time this season, Biaunca McFarland (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) set a new UB record in the triple jump. McFarland took the event with a leap of 40-5.5 (12.33m) becoming the first Bull to clear 40 feet.

Jenelle Callender (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Tech) also scored a victory in the 400-meters winning in 58.10.

Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) led the Bulls' men taking the long jump with a school record mark of 23-10 (7.24m). His jump broke the old record of 23-5.5 (7.15m) set in 1996 by Thom Kaye. Tory Smith (Centereach, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) finished third in the event for the Bulls at 23-0 (7.01m).
