UB Tracksters Complete Kane InvitationalITHACA, NY - The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Robert J. Kane Invitational at Cornell University's Barton Hall on Saturday. There was no team scoring in the meet that included teams from throughout New York and Ontario.
Other women's highlights included freshman Kate Kohout (Clarence, NY/Clarence) finishing second in the 800 meters in 2:17.5. Cornell's Ruth Morgan won the race in 2:17.5. Kohout also finished fifth in the triple jump (37-4.50, 11.39m). Allison Laske (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) took second in the 500-meter dash in 1:19.0, just seventh-tenths of a second behind the first-place finisher, Lynn Janovich of Ithaca College (1:18.3). Jenny Koeppel (Amherst, NY/Amherst) also scored a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run in 10:31.6. Freshman Krystal Seiling (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) had a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 59.2 seconds. Seiling trailed only a pair of runners from Canada's York University in the 30-runner field. Melissa Burrows (Norwood, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) took fifth place in the mile run at 5:17.6. In the men's meet, Dan Simpson (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) took second in the pole vault at 15-5.50 (4.71m). Onile White (Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) finished second in the 1,000 meters in 2:33.7. Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) placed third in the 5,000 meters in 15:18.2 while Joel Beatty (Holley, NY/Holley) was fourth in 15:37.1. Mark Hajnos (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) reached the finals of the 60-meter high hurdles, finishing eighth in 8.5 seconds. The event was won by current UB assistant coach Ron Andrews, racing unattached, in a Barton Hall record of 7.7 seconds. The squads now head for the Mid-American Conference Championships, February 28 and
March 1 at Kent State University. |
