Roy Richards Wins MAC Field Athlete of the Week Honors
BUFFALO, NY – For the third consecutive week, a University at Buffalo indoor track and field peformer has been selected for the Mid-American Conference's weekly honors. Men's long jumper Roy Richards (Rochester, NY/Edison Tech) has been named as the league's Men's Field Athlete of the Week by the MAC for the second time this season. The league announced its selections on Wednesday from its headquarters in Cleveland. Richards broke his own school record in the long jump finishing second against national competition at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City on February 2. Richards cleared 24-11.25 (7.60m) to improve on his school record by an inch and a half and finish behind All-Southeastern Conference performer Mychael Stewart. Richards also attained a provisional NCAA qualifying mark. Richards, the reigning MAC champion in the indoor long jump, currently has the second-best jump in the league behind Ohio's Scott Mayle (25-4.50, 7.73m) and is among the national leaders in the event, currently standing 12th in the country. This is the second time this season that Richards has won the league's honor. He picked up the award on January 23 for his performance at UB's season-opening meet, the Doug Raymond Invitational. Richards was one of three UB athletes honored for the week. UB also had two athletes, men's sprinter Reggie Rucker (Rochester, NY/Edison Tech) and women's weight thrower Sarah Vance (Lockport, NY/Lockport), pick up league honors last week. The Bulls travel to University Park, PA for this weekend's Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State for their next competition. |
