Weekly ReleaseAthlete of the Week Jump specialist Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina) swept the triple jump and long jump competitions at the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State University on Saturday, Jan. 22.
Bulls Take Pair of Seconds At Kent The Buffalo men's and women's teams both placed second of four teams at the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent University on Saturday. The men's team finished with 136 points, finishing second to the host Golden Flashes with 200 points but well ahead of Youngstown State (97) and MAC foe Marshall (73). The UB women, meanwhile, finished behind Kent, who had 196 points, while the Bulls finished with 150 ahead of Youngstown (110) and Marshall (46). The Bulls will make one more trip to Kent on Feb. 12th.
UB Women Break Two More Records The UB women had two more school records fall at the Doug Raymond Invitational on Saturday. Senior Melissa Ryan (Oswego, NY/Oswego) set a school record in the 60-meter high hurdles with a time of :9.04 while junior Sarah Fletcher (Crystal Beach, Ontario/Ridgeway-Crystal Beach) set a school record in the shot put with a toss of 40-2". Fletcher also finished second in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 53-13/4. Other top finishers for the Bulls were sophomore Sarah Kranzler (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore), who was second in the long jump (17-103/4) and fourth in the high jump (5-3) as well as junior Eileen Rose (Latham, NY/Shaler) who was second in the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:27.02.
Bulls Men Place Ten in Top Five The Bulls' men team had several outstanding performances at Kent, including a sweep of the long and triple jumps by junior Kamau Halim (Medina, NY/Medina). Halim won the triple jump with a leap 48-21/2 and the long jump with a leap of 22-11. The Bulls also saw Mike Commisso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) earn a second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.81. The Bulls had a pair of third place finishers as Jason Liddle (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) did the honors in the pole vault (14-11) while Rick Stewart (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca) was third in the 3,000 meters (8:46.89). Men @ IC4A; Women @ ECAC's Bulls To Host UB Invitational The Bulls' men's and women's teams will host the only home indoor meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 28th at UB's Alumni Arena. Schools scheduled to compete include: Alfred State College, Buffalo State, Canisius, Genesee CC, Geneseo State, RIT and UB. Competition begins at 4:00 pm.
