Several UB harriers break school records; some qualify for Junior Nationals and NCAA's

BUFFALO, NY - The Univeristy at Buffalo men's and women's track teams hosted Erie Community College, Roberts Weslyan, Plattsburgh, Binghamton, Edinboro and several teams from Canada at the UB Open this weekend (4/30-5/1).

Several Bulls set new records at the meet including senior Shelly Hamilton (Lockport, NY/Lockport) who broke her own school mark in the high jump and provisionally qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with her first-place jump of 5'11.25". Junior Alycia Croak (Painted Post, NY/Corniing-PP West) placed second in the triple jump (38'9".25) and set a new school record. Freshman Sarah Kranzler (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) qualified for the Junior Nationals as she placed first in the heptathlon with 4,266 points.

For the men's squad, hammer throw winner senior Rashidi Greene (Webster, NY/Aquinas) broke the school record with a toss of 179'4" while freshman Keith Gentes (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) placed second (172'7") and qualified for the Junior Nationals. Jason Liddle turned in a record-setting and winning performance in the pole vault (15'9"). The 4x100 relay team comprised of senior Mike Quagliata (Webster, NY/Webster), junior Matt Streng (Somerset, PA/Somerset), sophomore Peter Otovic (Dewitt, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), and junior Dave Monk (Norwich, NY/Norwich) also broke the school mark (41.95) on their way to a second-place finish.

Senior track members were honored during a reception that followed the meet.

The Bulls take part in the MAC Championships at Central Michigan on May 20-22.
