Tim Beach embarks on his sixth season coaching the UB horizontal jumpers and pole vaulters. Under Beach’s tutelage, UB has enjoyed success at the conference, regional and national level. Throughout his career at UB, he has coached eight NCAA qualifiers (five provisional, three automatic, and three NCAA finalists), two IC4A champions, one ECAC champion, 11 All-East, and six conference champions.

This past year, Roy Richards achieved an NCAA qualifying mark indoors (provisional) in the long jump. Richards also earned All-East indoor honors by defending his IC4A long jump title. Richards rewrote the UB indoor record books leaping 24-11.25. Rayshon Higgins finished his career winning indoor and outdoor MAC titles in the triple jump, missing the outdoor school record by one centimeter, jumping 50-10.75. Other 2007 All-East indoor awards were earned by pole vaulters Jessica Lister and Carrie Hinners. Freshman Octavia Johnston set a school record in the 60m dash with her 8th place finish at the MAC Indoor Championship (7.73) in 2007.

Beach also guided Laura Olson as she pole vaulted at the finals of the 2003 and 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships as well as the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships. She was also UB's first ever MAC champion. Olson was four times All-East in the vault and won the MAC outdoor title in 2003. She is the only athlete to hold a UB Stadium record (13-5.25) who did not compete in either the 1993 World University Games or 1998 NCAA Championships. Beach also helped men's vaulter Dan Simpson to a school record of 15-11 in 2004.

Before joining the UB program, Beach spent two seasons as an assistant at Columbia University, where he coached sprints, jumps, throws and combined events. Among his top performers were two NCAA qualifiers with Lindsey Stephenson finishing 13th at the 2001 NCAA Championships in the javelin. Stephenson still holds the Ivy League meet record (161-9) and she achieved All-East honors in winning the 2001 ECAC outdoor championship.

Prior to Columbia, Beach was an assistant at Pennsylvania, where he coached sprints, hurdles and jumps. In two seasons in Philadelphia, he coached two NCAA provisional qualifiers, eight All-East honorees and six heptagonal champions. Triple jumper Tuan Wreh currently holds the Ivy League indoor meet record (52-2) and won the 2000 IC4A outdoor championship. Ivy League hurdle champion Mike Aguillar represented Belize in the 2004 Athens Olympics. Gene Sun was 2000 indoor conference champion in the 60m dash.

Beach has considerable experience at the high school level, serving as coach at Philadelphia's Friends Central School for 17 years. While there, he coached two state champions and a former state record holder. His teams won eight league titles during his time while coaching track and field, soccer, basketball and cross country.

He began his coaching career in 1979 as the head soccer coach at Eastern College where he led his team to the 1983 NAIA District title and earned Region 10 Coach of the Year honors.

Currently, Beach is working on his USATF Level III certification. He holds a Level II certification in sprints/hurdles, jumps/pole vault, throws and combined events. He is active on the camp circuit, working as a clinician for the University of South Carolina, Cornell University, Skyjumpers and UB. During the year, he also has a series of Dynamic Flex clinics along with Laura Olson which includes instruction in the pole vaultand horizontal jumps.

A 1980 graduate of the The King's College, Beach and his wife Nancy have been married for 28 years. They have two children, Andrew (26) and Katie (24).
