Scholarship & Internship Information
NCAA Internship Program
The NCAA offers paid, 12-month internships at its national office providing
on-the-job learning experiences for college graduates pursuing a career in athletics
administration. Applicants are available to request their top three areas of interest
from the following groups:
- administrative services
- branding and communications
- championships
- Division I men's and women's basketball
- education services
- enforcement services
- governance
- membership services/student-athlete reinstatement
- the office of diversity and inclusion
Selected interns will be assigned a supervisor and mentor to assist in their career
development during the 12-month period, which begins June 2006.
The application deadline is December 16, 2005. The application may be obtained by

The Freedom Forum- NCAA Foundation Sports-Journalism
Scholarship Program

Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship Program

Criteria:
- Under this program, one male and one female student-athlete annually will be
awarded a postgraduate scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic
achievement and potential for success in postgraduate study.
- An individual named a Byers Scholar will be recognized as one who has combined
the best elements of mind and body to achieve national distinction for his or
her achievements, and promises to be a future leader in his or her chosen field
of career service.
Recognition/Award:
- The basic stipend for each Byers Scholarship shall be $21,500 for an academic
year.

Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement
Postgraduate Scholarship Programs

Criteria:
- Must be an ethnic minority or a woman who will be entering into the first year of their
initial postgraduate studies.
- The applicant must be seeking admission or have been accepted into a sports-administration or
related program that will assist the applicant in obtaining a career in intercollegiate
athletics.
Recognition/Award:
- 16 Scholarships are awarded to minorities and 16 to women
- Each award is valued at $6,000

NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
Program

Criteria:
- The NCAA awards 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women.
- The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and
athletically and who are in their last year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
- Nominees must have a minimum grade point average of 3.200 (based on a 4.000 scale),
be nominated by the faculty athletics representative or athletics director and intend
to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a part-time or full-time
graduate student.
Recognition/Award:
- The scholarships are one-time, nonrenewable grants of $6,900.

Division I Degree-Completion Award
Program

Criteria:
- Applicants must have completed eligibility for athletics-related aid at a Division
I member institution before applying and must be within 30 semester hours of their
degree requirements.
Recognition/Award:
- Full-time students receive grants equal to a full athletics grant at the institution;
part-time students receive tuition and an allowance for books.

Arthur Ashe Award Jr. Sports

- Must be an active member of an intercollegiate team during the year
- Must have completed one full year at the institution

Top VIII Award

- The nominee must complete intercollegiate eligibility in winter or spring academic

Theodore Roosevelt Award

Silver Anniversary
